Choosing a Real Estate Agent

No matter your regional area, you have a big decision looming in front of you when you are searching for a good Real Estate Agent. Of course, if you're coming to Fort Collins, Northern Colorado, or anywhere in Colorado, we want to be your Realtor and we would love the privilege to work with you. If you are not moving to Fort Collins, we have created a simple little checklist to choose your Best Real Estate Agent.

1. Are they personable? Real Estate agents should be very personable because of the nature of their job. They will have to speak with many different people, from mortgage brokers to title agents to other real estate agents that you will no doubt work with. If you are not comfortable with your Real Estate Agents personality, then they are probably not the best fit for you.

2. Do they know the area you are buying a home in? Ask your prospective Real Estate Agent questions about their area. Then do some research, and find out if they know the area better than Wikipedia does. This is very important if you are coming in from out of town or out of state. 

3. Do they have a bunch of partners in the area that they can rely on? Real Estate Agents should have partners in many different industries should you have any home problems. Plumbers, HVAC, Landscapers are common people that Real Estate Agents should know.

4. Make sure that you are comfortable spending a lot of time with them. Most Real Estate Agents will spend over 20 hours per home search with each home buyer. That's a lot of time, so if you don't have the best feeling about your Real Estate Agent, you might want to go with someone else.

5. Ultimately, your Real Estate Agent should have your best interests at heart. You should not be just another number to them, or another commission check. They should check in with you long after you have bought your home, and be active in your life. We like to say that your Real Estate Agent should be your Real Estate Agent for life!
