It's Homecoming Weekend!

This weekend marks homecoming weekend here in Fort Collins for Colorado State University. That means many Alumni will be coming back to Fort Collins to partake in the festivities.

CSU puts on a heck of a Homecoming show every year, starting with the parade that begins in Old Town and ends at the newly renovated Lory Student Center. If you haven’t been to the new Lory Student Center on campus, do yourself a favor and get over there to see it. I checked it out a few weeks ago, and they did an incredible job making it look like new again. Pretty much the same with the rest of campus, but we’ll leave that discussion for another post.

The parade is always a great time, and brings out not only students and their families, but Alumni and other families who didn’t attend CSU from all over Fort Collins. We love seeing so much support for the Green and Gold on Friday of Homecoming weekend, as it signifies that the weekend is going to be a great one. Before heading over to the parade, make sure you hop online to the Colorado State University site, and see what roads are closed. It can be difficult to drive to Old Town, or around campus because of all the road closures, so know your route before setting off.

We think the best part of Homecoming weekend is seeing all of the love that is shared when professors and students see each other after so long. There are ‘Hugging booths’ that are set up for retiring deans of departments such as Ann Gill of the Speech Department (just read about that one), meetups for the Business school Alumni to see their former professors (current students and their families are welcome too), and so many other activities on campus that you pretty much have your pick of the litter.

Of course tomorrow is the football game at Hughes Stadium, when CSU takes on Air Force. This is always a great matchup, and even though CSU is currently 2-4, and coming off a tough loss to Boise State, there’s always hope around Ram country that CSU can pull off an upset win (even at home), against Air Force. Mike Bobo, in his first season as CSU coach, has had a rough ride with their 2-4 record, but these Rams still fight hard, and hopefully we can get the win tomorrow.

Saturday night you will find that Old Town is extremely busy with revelers from the football game, and families looking for a nice dinner and a good little stroll around Old Town Square. The weather should cooperate for most of the day tomorrow, and give you a little bit of sunshine with a high of 75, but it’s gonna be cool at night, so make sure you bundle up if you’re going to be outside.

Regardless of the temperature, the festive weekend will surely bring many families and Alumni back to Fort Collins. Most of them will fall back in love with the area, or just love being here for the weekend. We’ve run into many old friends during homecoming weekend who say they are looking for Real Estate in Fort Collins because they want to move back to Northern Colorado.
